Description

A delightful Mexican dessert combining rich chocolate cake and creamy flan, creating a charming contrast and an explosion of flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup sugar (for caramel)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar

Instructions

  1. Make the caramel: In a small saucepan, simmer the sugar on medium-low heat until it melts and turns golden brown. Quickly pour it into a flan mold or bundt pan, swirling to cover the bottom evenly.
  2. Prepare the flan mixture: In a blender, mix the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour this mixture over the caramel in the mold.
  3. Mix the cake batter: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the water, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and vinegar. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Layer the cake and flan: Carefully pour the chocolate batter over the flan mixture in the mold.
  5. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a large baking dish with hot water for a water bath. Place your mold inside and bake for 50-60 minutes.
  6. Cool and flip: Allow the Chocoflan to cool completely, then cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. To serve, carefully invert onto a plate.

Notes

Blend flan ingredients thoroughly to avoid a lumpy texture. Garnish with whipped cream or fresh fruit for added flair.
