  • 1 crust refrigerated pie crust (or homemade) Use a store-bought crust for convenience.
  • 4 to 6 pieces apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) Choose a mix of sweet and tart apples for a richer flavor.
  • 1/4 cup sugar Adjust according to the sweetness of your apples.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted For coating the apples.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Adds warmth and flavor.
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten For egg wash to achieve a golden crust.

Optional for serving

  • to taste whipped cream or vanilla ice cream Great for topping the served tart.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Roll out your pie crust into a 9-inch tart pan, and press it into the pan. Poke a few holes in the bottom with a fork.
  • Peel and core the apples, then slice them thinly, aiming for about 1/4-inch thick slices.
  • In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon.

Assembly

  • Layer the apple mixture in the prepared pie crust, swirling and stacking them for a beautiful effect.
  • Brush the top of the apples with the beaten egg for a golden glow.

Baking

  • Place your tart on the center rack and bake for about 30 to 35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.

Cooling and Serving

  • Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.

Notes

Feel free to experiment with different apple varieties for fun flavors. You can prepare the tart ahead of time and bake it before serving. Don't worry about achieving a perfect look; rustic is in style!
