Ingredients

Cake and Base

  • 1 box yellow cake mix Follow package instructions.
  • 1 cup milk

Peanut Butter Mixture

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Toppings and Garnish

  • 2 cups whipped cream Store-bought or homemade.
  • 1 pound ripe bananas About 3-4 bananas.
  • Chocolate shavings or peanuts For garnish (optional).

Instructions

Preparation

  • Bake the Cake: Follow the instructions on your yellow cake mix box—mix the ingredients, bake, and let it cool completely.
  • Prepare the Peanut Butter Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the creamy peanut butter, milk, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Slice the Bananas: Peel and slice the ripe bananas into thin rounds.

Assembly

  • Layer It All Up: In a large glass bowl or individual cups, start with a layer of the cake, followed by a layer of the peanut butter mixture, banana slices, and a dollop of whipped cream. Repeat these layers until your bowl is full.
  • Top It Off: Finish with a topping of whipped cream and optional chocolate shavings or crushed peanuts.

Serving

  • Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the trifle for about 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

Make it ahead of time and keep the sliced bananas separate to avoid browning. Leftovers can be stored tightly covered in the refrigerator for a day or two. Add fresh banana slices before serving if desired.
